    Alvin H. Perlmutter is the Director of the Independent Production Fund. He has produced highly acclaimed information programming for over 30 years. Mr. Perlmutter’s television programs have aired on PBS, the commercial networks and cable in this country and have also been broadcast throughout Europe and the Far East.

    Prior to forming his own company, Mr. Perlmutter served as NBC News Vice President where he was responsible for all network documentaries and news magazine programs and earlier as Director of Public Affairs Programming and Program Manager of WNBC-TV, New York.

    He has been the recipient of every major broadcasting award including six national prime-time Emmys, the Peabody Award and five Ace Awards for excellence in programming on cable television.

    He was executive producer of the highly innovative public affairs magazine series, The Great American Dream Machine (PBS), and he was also the co-executive producer of Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth with Bill Moyers (PBS).  His more recent productions include Muslims, a two-hour Frontline special, God and Government, also for public television, and IPF’s latest documentary, Beyond Borders: Undocumented Mexican Americans.

  • Since 1987, the Independent Production Fund (IPF), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, has been creating documentary and informational programs addressing public affairs, business and finance,  medicine and health, and culture.

    IPF’s programs have appeared on the commercial networks, PBS, HBO and other cable outlets. Through collaboration with various international broadcasters, the documentaries have been seen by viewers worldwide.

    Our producers have won media's most prestigious awards, including Emmys, Peabodys, CINE Golden Eagles, ACE Awards, the Dupont Journalism Award and recognition at major international film festivals.

    IPF also produces videos and DVDs used in organizational development, promotion, and professional training.  Clients have included: Dartmouth Medical School, Stanford Graduate School of Business, the Harlem Educational Activities Fund, the HealthCare Chaplaincy, the Coalition of Voluntary Mental Health Agencies, Zero to Three, and Prudential.

    IPF develops highly effective community engagement and educational outreach campaigns to bring our programs into local venues and classrooms.  These campaigns include study and discussion guides, interactive informational web sites, partnerships with grassroots organizations, and the tools needed to initiate dialogue at the local level around specific topics.

    IPF pioneered successful joint-ventures with magazine and book publishers, translating print information into entertaining video formats with numerous authors and companies, including Newsweek, Money Magazine, The Financial Times, US News & World Report, Consumer Reports and Sylvia Porter's Personal Finance.

    IPF is experienced in international co-production. The company's crews have produced in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, the Middle East and South America, and co-produced with BBC (Great Britain), CCTV (People's Republic of China), NHK (Tokyo), and KBS (Korea).
